"Cultivating a close, warmhearted feeling for others automatically puts the mind at ease and opens our inner door. It helps remove whatever fears or insecurities we may have and gives us the strength to cope with any obstacles we encounter. It is the principal source of success in life. "
His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

We will be holding study and meditation meetings every two weeks, the meetings will be a mixture of meditation, presentation of new material, review of last meeting's material and discussion.
During the first course we'll be studying is 'Mind and it's Potential for Happiness and Suffering', which is based on the FPMT's Discovering Buddhism at Home, module 1.
|
|
Topics to be discussed will include:
- What is mind? Is my happiness at any given moment really dependent on my mind? Is my mind the same as my brain? What is the difference between a corpse and a 'live' body?
- Buddhist view of mind: clear and knowing, mental continuum. What do I think about 'beginningless mind'?
- Who am 'I'? and what do 'I' want? Experience what it means to be a mind inhabiting a human body.
- What is 'Buddha nature': Is enlightenment possible? Can the mind change for the better or worse? How can we change it for the better? What qualities do 'saints' or people we admire have? How do they develop those qualities?
- Discuss our potential for change, happiness, enlightenment. Do I really believe everlasting happiness is possible? What prevents me from experiencing happiness? How could I better help others?
